Carlyle is the largest man made lake in the state of Illinois. The 25,000 acre lake was formed by damming up the Kaskaskia River in 1967. The average depth is 11′ with the deepest water close to 35′. Crappie and Catfish make up the biggest draws. Flathead Catfish especially as large as 50lbs are very common. White bass are also very popular here and abundant. Bluegill has continued to struggle but Largemouth Bass rates are improving.
There are many boat ramps to access this massive body of water which attracts sail boats in the warmer months. Beautiful cottages surround the lake and there is no outboard limit. There are many tournaments here throughout the year and something for everyone!
