Only minutes southeast of the state Capitol, Lake Springfield is just over 4200 acres and has an average depth of 13′ and a max depth of 30′. It was created by damming up the tributaries of Lick Creek and Sugar Creek.
It is prized mostly for its bluegill population! Catfish both Channel and Flathead are also easily caught here. Bass are caught in fair numbers and the Crappie population is said to be developing! There are 4 access points via concrete boat ramps making the lake easily accessible for off shore fisherman! Docks provide a reliable cover for all fish species and are found all over the lake. Archery fishing is allowed for rough fish. If you’re visiting the state Capitol you’ll cross over the lake on Interstate 55.
